  • Provide insulating rubber mats rated for safe use in LV switchgear rooms, suitable for personnel standing in front of live or potentially live equipment.
  • Mat characteristics:
    • Minimum thickness: 3 mm (or as specified).
    • Surface finish: ribbed or anti-slip.
    • Width: minimum 1 m, and extend at least 1 m beyond the total width of each LV panel section.
  • Mats shall carry permanent markings including: class/rating, manufacturer name, batch/lot number, voltage rating.
  • Provide product datasheet and material compliance certificate for review/approval prior to installation.
  • Ensure materials comply with DEWA’s requirement for equipment and materials: all equipment and materials shall be selected in accordance with “Standards for equipment and materials” in DEWA’s Regulations for Electrical Installations.

2. Preparation

  • Inspect the LV room floor area: verify floor is dry, level, structurally sound, free of oil/grease, debris, sharp edges or protrusions.
  • Confirm that the layout of mats is coordinated with the client/consultant and aligns with the switchgear arrangement.
  • Provide or review layout drawing showing the mat arrangement in front of each panel for client/consultant approval.
  • Carry-out any floor repair, cleaning or priming necessary so that mat adhesion (if required) is effective.

3. Installation

  • Roll out and place the insulating mats in front of the LV switchgear/MCC panels ensuring full coverage of the designated zone.
  • Ensure mats lie flat, with no folds, wrinkles, bulges or gaps. Overlap joints if required using manufacturer-approved method.
  • Fix mats to prevent slipping – using non-conductive adhesive or mechanical edge strips as specified by the mat manufacturer.
  • Ensure all markings remain visible after installation.
  • Ensure installation is done without damage (cuts, punctures) to the mats; rectify any defects prior to testing.
  • Confirm that workmanship is “neat, orderly and in a workmanlike manner”, consistent with DEWA’s workmanship requirement.

4. Inspection & Testing

  • Conduct visual inspection: verify alignment, coverage, condition, and visible markings.
  • Where required by project specification, perform dielectric (insulation) test of the mats or verify that manufacturer’s test certificates apply.
  • Prepare and submit an installation completion report including: photos of installed mats, compliance certificates.
  • Coordinate with site FM team for final inspection and approval.
