1. Measurement of Earth Resistance

  • Perform earth resistance measurement for each earth pit using a calibrated digital earth tester.
  • Use the 3-point or 4-point method in accordance with IS/IEC standards (e.g., IS 3043).
  • Record readings under stable soil and weather conditions to ensure accuracy.

2. Testing of All Existing Earth Pits

  • Conduct testing on all identified and accessible earth pits within the premises.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant electrical safety and earthing standards.
  • Verify that each pit undergoes proper resistance measurement.

3. Physical Inspection & Verification

  • Inspect the physical condition of each earth pit, including:
    • Pit chamber structure.
    • Earthing electrode exposure.
    • Moisture condition and backfill.
  • Check connection integrity, including:
    • Condition of clamps and termination hardware.
    • Tightness and corrosion status of conductors.
    • Continuity of earth strips/wires.
  • Ensure all components meet required safety and quality norms.

4. Preparation of Earth Test Report

  • Prepare a detailed report containing:
    • Pit number / identification tag
    • Location of each earth pit
    • Measured earth resistance value (ohms)
    • Environmental conditions during testing
    • Visual inspection observations
  • Provide a summary sheet covering all pits tested.

5. Recommendations & Corrective Actions

  • Compare measured values with permissible limits recommended by applicable standards.
  • Provide recommendations for improvement where resistance values are higher than allowable limits.
  • Suggest corrective measures such as:
    • Soil enhancement
    • Addition of chemical compound
    • Re-tightening / replacement of clamps
    • Conductor replacement
    • Installation of parallel earth electrodes (if required)

6. Minor Rectification Work

  • Perform minor corrective actions on-site, including:
    • Cleaning and tightening of clamps and connections.
    • Removal of corrosion from conductor joints.
    • Top-up of water or backfill compounds (if necessary).
    • Ensuring pit covers are properly seated and labeled.
  • Report any major defects that require additional work beyond this scope.
